An Ideal Golf School Vacation.

Wild Horse Pass Resort

Wild Horse Pass Resort and Spa, just north of Phoenix is a special place. Once you have been there, you immediately want to make plans to come again.

A relative newcomer to the luxury resort market, Wild Horse Pass offers its guests the perfect setting to get away from it all, and to enjoy the splendor of the Sonoran Desert. The resort spreads across the ancestral lands of the Gila River Indian Community who have called these lands their home, for over 2,300 years.

Upon arrival at the hotel and entering the stunning lobby, you are greeted by rich murals depicting the history of the Pima and Maricopa tribes. Looking out through the enormous bay windows at the Sierra Estrella Mountains is one of the most dramatic views in all of the Southwest.

The rooms are beautifully decorated and celebrate the culture of the Pima (Akimel O'othan) and Maricopa (Pee Posh) tribes with authentic artwork and furnishings. Each room features a private balcony, luxury bedding and linens and very spacious bathrooms. Be sure to look out across the desert for the herds of wild mustangs which roam across the land.

Wild Horse Pass has every conceivable amenity that you would expect at a great resort. A must experience, is the incredible, Mobil 5 Diamond (one of only four restaurants in all of Arizona with that distinction), KAI restaurant. Under the guidance of James Beard award winning Chef, Janos Wilder, and executive Chef, Michael O'Dowd, Kai, meaning 'seed' in the Pima language, offers a menu rich in creativity, history and Native American culture. With two sommeliers on property and a selection of over 1,600 wines, you are also assured the perfect compliment for every palate.

The Resort's other main dining experience is Ko'sin, that features a blend of American and Southwestern cuisine. Additionally, the resort offers the relaxed atmosphere of the Hanyo Grill which is in the main pool area (there are four pools with cascading waterfalls and a 111-foot waterslide modeling the ancient Casa Grande Ruins and the Aji Café that has a menu with healthy lunch options prepared on site by the Aji Café Chef. Something for everyone.

Whirlwind Golf Course

The 36 hole Championship golf courses are called Whirlwind. Cattail and Devil's Claw were designed by Gary Panks and meander through the arroyo and desert. Two masterpieces, they have been the recipient of numerous accolades and awards. Managed by Troon Golf, they were voted Troon's facility of the Year in 2004, and hosted the PGA Nationwide Tour's Gila River Classic for four years. In addition to which, they are Golfweek's, 2007 "Best resort Course", and a Conde Nast "Top 100 Golf Resort". Both courses are very playable for the recreational golfer but from the back tees will test the serious player.

Another unique aspect of Whirlwind is that there are no homes (the only resort of its kind in Arizona to be able to say that) on the courses, so one can immerse oneself in the serenity and landscape of the desert.

Whirlwind is also the flagship site of The Bird Golf Academy, the world's best golf schools. Bird Golf specializes in one and two (student(s) ) to one professional instruction. Learn from award winning PGA and LPGA professionals, who include a US Open winner, the founding Teaching Editor of Golf For Women magazine, the 1989 LPGA Teacher of the Year and 6 members of one or more Golf Halls of Fame.

After a day on the links; what could be better than a massage? The AJI Spa is named for the Pima word for Sanctuary and makes for the perfect setting to wash all your cares away. With 17 treatment rooms, salon, fitness center and relaxing watsu pool, you can indulge in one-of-a-kind spa services. Many of the treatments developed from ancient rituals and include ingredients such as red clay from the Gila River and indigenous, Cholla cactus.

Two other wonderful elements at the resort are Rawhide, where you can journey back in time at the world-famous replica of a 1880s Frontier town and the Koli Equestrian Center, who offer guided horseback adventures. All in all, there may be no other resort quite like Wild Horse Pass but there is one thing that separates Wild Horse from any other resort in Arizona. They care that you are there.

The level of service at the resort is in a league of it own. There are a lot of expensive resorts who may give you "the bells and whistles" but to whom you are just a number. A number to be replaced by another number, tomorrow. Not at Wild Horse Pass. Each guest is welcomed in a way that makes you feel special. If you are walking down the hallway at the hotel and come across a member of the housecleaning staff, they will stop what they are doing and ask you about your stay.

Being a guest at Wild Horse Pass is much more than just a stay at a superb hotel. It is a cultural and enlightening experience that will leave you refreshed, renewed and invigorated.
