Lower Wolf Creek Campground is a small, rustic campground in Prescott National Forest south of Prescott, Arizona. Set along Wolf Creek at roughly 6,000 feet elevation, the campground is shaded by ponderosa pines, Arizona walnut and live oak trees and features distinctive boulder-strewn terrain.

The campground was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930s and retains historic stonework around the campground. Directions To Lower Wolf Creek Campground

From Prescott, take Senator Highway, also known as Mt. Vernon Avenue, south for approximately six miles. Pass Goldwater Lake and the Groom Creek community. Near the end of the pavement, turn right onto Forest Road 97 and continue approximately 1.25 miles to Lower Wolf Creek Campground.

Forest Road 97 is unpaved but is generally suitable for passenger vehicles during dry conditions. Rain, snow or muddy conditions can make the route more difficult, so check current road and weather conditions before traveling.

Alternate Route From Prescott

Another approach is to take U.S. Highway 89 south from Prescott for approximately six miles to Forest Road 97. Turn left onto Forest Road 97 and continue approximately 5.1 miles on graded dirt road to the campground.

This route includes a substantially longer unpaved section than the Senator Highway approach, so the Senator Highway route is generally preferable when road conditions are uncertain.
