Golden Eagle

Last updated on .

Golden eagles are among the most powerful birds of prey in Arizona, known for their broad wings, sharp eyesight, and ability to soar over open desert, canyons, cliffs, grasslands, and mountain country. These majestic raptors hunt rabbits, ground squirrels, and other small mammals while nesting on remote ledges or rugged terrain. For wildlife watchers and bird photographers, seeing a golden eagle in Arizona is one of the state’s most memorable outdoor experiences.

Where Golden Eagles Live in Arizona

Arizona provides excellent habitat for golden eagles thanks to its wide-open landscapes, rocky nesting areas, and healthy prey populations. They are found across much of the state, especially in remote desert ranges, canyon country, grasslands, and foothill regions. Unlike bald eagles that are often tied to water, golden eagles are more commonly associated with dry open country where they use rising air currents to patrol large territories.
